15 Min Productivity Tracking Update 2
It's only been a day or so, but I've realised some limitations with my initial time tracking implementation.
You do multiple things at once. Just because you're travelling to work doesn't mean you're not utilising that time. My trips to and from the office are some of my most productive, uninterrupted parts of the day. I realised it was imperative that I track these, yet the limitations of my spreadsheet approach didn't enable this.
You do things with people modifiers. You might have dinner. You might have dinner with your family. You might have dinner with a friend. They're all categorised as the same action, but who you do them with changes how you view them. Consequently, I wanted to be able to track people modifiers i.e. who I do things with.
With these two points in mind, I spent most of today rebuilding my system. (It's safe to say I may be slightly addicted to this productivity tracking idea). I've migrated to utilise a custom table within AirTable that will allow me to have both multiple actions and people modifiers. It took me a few hours to get set up, but the additional benefit is a much nicer mobile experience to enter data - yay!
The one negative with the air table approach is the loss of data analytics, graphs, calculations etc that you get from Google Sheets. To cater for this, I use a service to automatically sync my data into a new Google Sheet every hour. This way, I have one app to visit for recording my productivity and another to visit to see the analysis.
